The SE International Radiation Alert Ranger is a handheld digital Geiger counter for detecting alpha, beta, gamma, and X-ray radiation. It features a digital readout with a red light indicator, silenceable audible beeper, adjustable alert threshold, and built-in timer. Observer USB Software enables data logging, computer alarms, and calibration. Operating range covers 0.001–100 mR/hr, 0–350,000 CPM, 0.01–1000 µSv/hr, and 0–5,000 CPS, with ±10% accuracy referenced to Cs-137 (NIST calibrated). Common applications include surface contamination screening, environmental monitoring, noble gas detection, and radionuclide exposure monitoring.

What is the SE International Radiation Alert Ranger used for?
It's a handheld Geiger-Müller survey meter for detecting and measuring alpha, beta, gamma, and X-ray radiation. Common uses include health physics surveys, contamination checks, radiation work area monitoring, and field verification of radiological boundaries.
What radiation types does the Ranger detect?
Alpha, beta, gamma, and X-ray radiation using its built-in GM pancake detector. Alpha detection requires close proximity to the source since alpha particles have limited range in air.
Ranger vs. Ranger EXP — what's the difference?
The Ranger EXP extends the upper measurement range, making it better suited for surveys near higher-activity sources where the standard Ranger's range may be insufficient. For routine contamination surveys and low-to-mid activity area monitoring, the standard Ranger covers most use cases.
Geiger counter vs. scintillation detector — when should I use each?
Use a Geiger counter for contamination surveys, surface beta/gamma checks, and portable field monitoring where robustness and portability matter. Use a scintillation detector when you need higher sensitivity to low-level gamma at ambient dose rates or require energy discrimination.
What should I confirm before deploying for a survey?
The radiation type and energy range expected, whether surface contamination or area dose rate monitoring is the objective, and that the instrument's measurement range is appropriate for expected activity levels at your site.
