What flow range does the Defender 520H cover?
300 to 30,000 mL/min (0.3 to 30 LPM). It is the high-flow member of the Defender family, intended for area samplers and high-volume equipment rather than personal pumps.
When should I step up from the 520M to the 520H?
When your sampling runs above 5 L/min, which is the 520M ceiling. Area samplers, high-volume cassette sampling and many bioaerosol samplers operate in the 10 to 30 L/min band that the 520H covers. The two overlap between 0.3 and 5 L/min, so if your work spans both personal and area sampling either can handle the middle.
Can the 520H calibrate low-flow sorbent tube sampling?
No. Its range stops at 300 mL/min, and sorbent tube methods commonly run between 20 and 200 mL/min. Use the 520L for that work, which covers 5 to 500 mL/min.
Is the 520H a primary standard?
Yes. It measures volumetric flow directly, with percent-of-reading accuracy supported by NVLAP NIST ISO 17025 accreditation, so it serves as the reference for verifying your sampling equipment.
Can I document flow over a long sampling run?
Yes. It takes single readings, continuous hands-free readings, or automatic readings at intervals from 1 to 60 minutes. For extended area sampling the interval mode lets you show flow held steady rather than relying on start and end checks alone.
Which flow units does it display?
mL, L, cc or cfm. At high flows cfm is often the practical unit for ventilation and area sampling work, and reading it directly avoids converting from L/min.
