What flow range does the Defender 520L cover?
5 to 500 mL/min (0.005 to 0.5 LPM). It is the lowest-range calibrator in the Defender family, intended for low-flow sampling rather than general pump work.
Why do I need a low-flow calibrator instead of a standard one?
Sorbent tubes, passive badges and many gas sampling methods run at flows well under 500 mL/min, often between 20 and 200 mL/min. A calibrator whose range starts at 50 mL/min or higher either cannot read those flows at all or reads them at the very bottom of its span where accuracy is weakest. The 520L is built for that band.
Will the 520L calibrate my filter cassette or cyclone sampling?
Usually not. Respirable dust cyclones and filter cassettes typically run between 1 and 4 L/min, which is above this unit's 0.5 L/min ceiling. Choose the 520M for that work, or the 520H for area samplers above 5 L/min.
Is the 520L accurate enough for compliance sampling?
Its percent-of-reading accuracy is supported by NVLAP NIST ISO 17025 accreditation, and it measures volumetric flow directly as a primary standard. That is the basis most industrial hygiene programmes require for documenting pre- and post-sampling pump calibration.
Can I log low-flow readings over time?
Yes. Alongside single readings and continuous hands-free operation, it can take automatic readings at intervals from 1 to 60 minutes, and transfer the data to a PC over the integrated serial interface for automatic recording and graphing.
Which flow units does it display?
mL, L, cc or cfm. At low flows most sampling methods specify mL/min, so reading directly in mL avoids converting from litres and introducing a rounding error into your calibration record.
Does the rental include calibration documentation?
