Bluetooth-Enabled Edge 4 Plus and Gilair Plus: Enhanced Connectivity for Advanced Monitoring

A quick overview of the Bluetooth-enabled TSI Quest Edge 4 Plus and Sensidyne GilAir Plus instruments. This 7-minute tutorial demonstrates how to use the Sensidyne and EdgeDB apps to wirelessly monitor flow rates, noise exposure levels, and device status from a distance, enhancing safety and efficiency during industrial hygiene surveys.

Pre-Setup Requirements

Before starting your calibration, prepare your equipment to ensure the most accurate readings:

  • Calibrator Diagnostics: Run a quick leak test in the diagnostics menu of the BIOS Defender to confirm there are no internal leaks that could skew your results [00:32].

  • Measurement Modes: Familiarize yourself with the BIOS Defender measurement modes: Single, Continuous, and Burst. The Continuous mode is often preferred for easy, ongoing readings during adjustment [01:23].

  • Sample Train Setup: Always calibrate using the exact sample train (tubing, cassette, etc.) that will be used during actual sampling to account for any backpressure [02:57].

Step 1: Setting the Target Flow Rate

Establish your target flow on the pump before connecting it to the calibrator:

  • Initial Setting: Power on the GilAir Plus and use the plus/minus buttons to set your desired flow rate (e.g., 2500 cc/min). Press the checkmark to save the target [02:22].

  • Enter Calibration Mode: Navigate to the Calibrate menu on the pump to begin running the motor for calibration [02:48].

Step 2: Connecting and Measuring

Link the pump to the calibrator to view the actual flow being pulled:

  • Connection: Connect the tubing from the pump's sample train to the Suction port on the BIOS Defender [03:52].

  • Read the Calibrator: The BIOS Defender will display the real-time flow rate and a running average. Compare this average to your target setting on the pump [04:18].

Step 3: Adjusting and Finalizing

Match the pump's internal flow reading to the external calibration standard:

  • Manual Adjustment: Use the plus and minus buttons on the pump to adjust the value displayed on its screen to match the average flow rate shown on the BIOS Defender [04:41].

  • Confirm Adjustment: Once the pump's value matches the calibrator, press the checkmark. The pump will adjust its motor speed to reach the original target based on this new calibration point [05:00].

  • Completion: When the average flow rate matches your target, press the checkmark one final time to complete the calibration [06:03].
