Mercury (Hg)

CAS Number: 7439-97-6
Mercury (Hg) is a heavy metal that exists in elemental, inorganic, and organic forms, each with distinct toxicological properties. Elemental mercury vapor is the primary occupational concern, arising from broken thermometers, fluorescent lamps, dental amalgam preparation, and industrial processes such as chlor-alkali production and gold mining. Mercury vapor is readily absorbed through the lungs and accumulates in the brain and kidneys, causing tremors, neurological damage, and kidney disease. Organic mercury (methylmercury) is a severe neurotoxin associated with fish consumption rather than occupational exposure. Industrial hygienists use real-time mercury vapor analyzers and passive dosimeters to assess workplace exposures.

Mercury (Hg) vapor is a serious inhalation hazard during mercury spill response, equipment removal, and work in facilities with mercury-containing devices. Rent mercury vapor monitoring equipment from RAECO Rents to support area screening, clearance checks, and exposure assessments in laboratories, industrial sites, and remediation projects. Our mercury vapor analyzers are annually calibrated, and we perform zero calibration and sensor regeneration in house to keep instruments field-ready.
