What flow range does the Defender 520M cover, and which pumps suit it?
50 to 5,000 mL/min (0.05 to 5 LPM). That covers most personal sampling pumps running filter cassettes and cyclones in the 1 to 4 L/min band. Below 50 mL/min, for low-flow sorbent tube sampling, you need the 520L. Above 5 L/min, for area and high-volume samplers, you need the 520H.
Is the Defender 520M a primary standard calibrator?
Yes. It measures volumetric flow directly rather than inferring it from pressure or velocity, and its percent-of-reading accuracy is supported by NVLAP NIST ISO 17025 accreditation. That makes it suitable as the reference instrument for calibrating and verifying sampling pumps rather than something that itself needs checking against another device in the field.
How do the Defender 520L, 520M and 520H differ?
Only in flow range. The 520L covers 5 to 500 mL/min, the 520M covers 50 to 5,000 mL/min, and the 520H covers 300 to 30,000 mL/min. Interface, accuracy basis, selectable units and PC software are identical across all three, so choose purely on the flow rate your pump runs at.
Can it take readings without someone holding it?
Yes. You can take single readings, run continuous hands-free readings, or set it to read automatically at intervals from 1 to 60 minutes. The interval mode is useful when you want to document flow stability over a sampling period rather than just capture pre- and post-shift checks.
Which flow units can the Defender display?
mL, L, cc or cfm, selectable on the instrument. This matters when your sampling method specifies one unit and your pump reads in another, since it removes a manual conversion step from the calibration record.
Can I get the readings onto a computer?
Yes. An integrated serial PC interface and accompanying software transfer flow data to a computer, then record and graph the measurements automatically. That gives you a documented calibration trail without transcribing readings by hand.
Does the rental include calibration documentation?
