Ultraviolet Radiation (UV)

CAS Number: N/A
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is optical radiation just shorter in wavelength than visible light, from about 100 to 400 nm. It is split into UV-A (315–400 nm), UV-B (280–315 nm) and UV-C (100–280 nm). Workplace sources include germicidal UV-C lamps used for disinfection, UV curing systems for inks, coatings and adhesives, and inspection lamps. Overexposure can cause photokeratitis (painful inflammation of the cornea) and skin burns, and long-term exposure raises the risk of skin cancer and cataracts. Measuring UV irradiance and dose confirms that disinfection and curing systems deliver their intended output.

Ultraviolet (UV) measurement confirms the output of germicidal UV-C disinfection systems and UV curing equipment. Rent a calibrated UV radiometer from RAECO Rents with probes for UV-C (249–259 nm) and broadband UVA/UVB (250–400 nm), with phone support to help you pick the right probe for your source.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about
Can I measure walkway or work-area lighting with the ILT2400?
No. The ILT2400 ships with UV probes only, so it can't read lux or footcandles. For walkway, task or general lighting levels, rent the LT300 light meter.
Which ILT2400 probe do I need?
Use the XSD140T254 probe (249–259 nm, centered on 254 nm) to check germicidal UV-C lamps. It has a low-profile housing for tight clearances and reads up to 2 W/cm². Use the SED005/WBS320/W probe (250–400 nm) for broadband UVA/UVB sources such as UV curing lamps; it reads up to 1 W/cm². If you need both, rent the kit with both probes. Tell us your wavelength range when you order.
How do I measure UV dose in J/cm²?
Turn on Integrate mode. The ILT2400 adds each reading to a running total once per second, so W/cm² becomes J/cm² (dose). Set the display units to the probe's calibrated light-level units first.
Does the ILT2400 come with a calibration certificate?
Yes. The meter and probes come with ISO 17025, NIST-traceable calibration certificates.
Which light meter should I rent: a standard lux meter like the LT300 or a UV meter like the ILT2400?
Rent the LT300 (or similar lux/footcandle meter) for visible lighting surveys—workplace illumination, compliance checks, and lighting design. Rent the ILT2400 (or similar UV meter) when you need to measure UV intensity, specifically for UV-C disinfection verification, UV curing, or UV safety assessments. The two instruments serve completely different purposes and aren’t interchangeable.
