What are Nextteq smoke tubes used for?
They generate a visible smoke trail to visualize airflow direction, detect drafts, and verify directional airflow in HVAC, containment, and cleanroom applications. Use them when you need to see where air is actually moving — fume hood capture verification, HVAC supply/return direction, isolation room pressure boundary checks, and LEV capture confirmation.
Smoke tubes vs. anemometer — when do I use which?
Use smoke tubes when you need to see airflow direction and patterns qualitatively. Use an anemometer when you need to measure velocity or confirm quantitative compliance with a face velocity standard. They’re complementary: smoke to understand what’s happening, then a meter to quantify.
Can smoke tubes verify containment on fume hoods and biosafety cabinets?
Yes for fume hoods and directional airflow checks. For biosafety cabinet (BSC) certification, verify whether your facility requires ANSI/NSF 49-compliant testing with a calibrated instrument — smoke tubes support directional checks but don’t substitute for certified performance testing.
Are there safety considerations for using smoke tubes in occupied spaces?
Yes — titanium tetrachloride smoke is a respiratory irritant. Don't use in occupied spaces without adequate ventilation and worker awareness. Wear gloves, avoid direct inhalation, and follow your facility's chemical safety procedures. SDS is available from Nextteq.
Are Nextteq smoke tubes reusable?
Yes — recap partially used tubes for short-term storage, though smoke output degrades as reagent is consumed and moisture infiltrates. Use a fresh tube for each test session for reliable results.
What's included in the Nextteq Smoke Tube 5-pack?
Five smoke tubes, handheld aspiration bulb, rubber end caps for resealing, and a zippered carrying bag.
What does it cost to rent the Nextteq Smoke Tube 5-pack?
Contact RAECO Rents for current pricing. For building surveys requiring coverage across many test points, order more than you think you need — running short mid-survey is a common problem. Partially used tubes degrade, so treat them as near-single-use per session.
