How to use Safety Suite Software for RAE Systems

The ppbRAE 3000+ by Honeywell RAE Systems is an advanced handheld VOC monitor designed for ultra-low-level volatile organic compound detection in hazmat response, CBRNE, oil and gas, environmental monitoring, and confined space applications. Using a 10.6 eV PID lamp, it delivers real-time measurements with a resolution of 1 ppb and a range of 1 ppb–10,000 ppm, with a 2-second response time and datalogging capacity for 260,000 data points. The instrument supports 220+ built-in correction factors, Bluetooth or RF wireless communication, and is rated for Class I, Division 1 hazardous locations. Compatible with Honeywell Safety Suite software for data management.

What is the ppbRAE 3000+ used for?
It's a handheld photoionization detector (PID) used for VOC screening when you need higher sensitivity than a standard ppm-only PID — hazmat response, remediation, industrial hygiene surveys, and perimeter checks where small VOC changes matter.
What does a ppb-level reading actually mean?
A PID responds to many ionizable VOCs and reports a screening value. A ppb-level number means the instrument can detect very small changes, but it still doesn't identify the exact compound by itself. Use it to find hotspots and trends, then use compound-specific methods if your decision requires identification.
When should I choose the ppbRAE 3000+ instead of a standard PID?
Choose the ppbRAE when your ppm PID reads zero but you still need to know if VOCs are present. It's a better fit for low-level screening, background checks, and confirming that controls reduced VOCs rather than just pushing them below a ppm-only instrument's sensitivity.
ppbRAE 3000+ vs. MiniRAE 3000+ — what's the practical difference?
Both are PID VOC instruments. The ppbRAE is chosen when you need more sensitivity at low levels and want to see smaller changes across rooms or along a plume. Use the MiniRAE when you expect higher ppm and you're doing leak checks and rough mapping; use the ppbRAE when chasing faint VOC signals.
How many compounds does it have correction factors for?
It includes built-in correction factors for more than 220 volatile organic compounds, and measures down to parts-per-billion. It's commonly used in CBRNE, hazmat response, search and rescue, decontamination, and oil and gas environments.
Can I use the ppbRAE 3000+ for indoor air quality and vapor intrusion screening?
Yes, for screening — useful for identifying where VOC levels are elevated relative to background and checking whether ventilation reduced readings. If the project requires compound-specific reporting, pair screening with lab samples or a compound-specific monitor.
Is the ppbRAE 3000+ intrinsically safe?
Yes — it is intrinsically safe. Always confirm the site classification and follow your safety program before deploying into a classified area.
How much does it cost to rent the ppbRAE 3000+?
Listed rental rates are $170/day and $490/week. Pricing beyond two weeks is quoted — contact RAECO Rents.
