What flow range does the TSI 4046 cover?
2,500 to 300,000 mL/min (2.5 to 300 LPM). That is the highest flow range of any calibrator in our fleet, aimed at high-volume samplers and large-flow equipment rather than personal sampling pumps.
What kind of equipment actually needs 300 LPM?
High-volume air samplers, large bioaerosol samplers and ventilation equipment verification. If your work is personal sampling at 1 to 4 L/min, this calibrator is far larger than you need and the TSI 4146 or a Defender 520M is the better fit.
Does it give continuous readings while I adjust a pump?
Yes. It provides continuous real-time readings, so you can watch the flow respond as you adjust rather than taking a reading, adjusting blind, then re-reading. That makes setting a large sampler to a target flow considerably faster.
Is it a primary calibrator, and does it come with certification?
Yes on both counts. It is a primary standard, and it is supplied with a NIST-traceable calibration certificate. The same unit serves for initial adjustment, formal calibration and periodic field checks, so you are not switching reference instruments partway through a programme.
Can I use it in the field or is it a bench instrument?
It is field portable. Despite covering flows up to 300 LPM it is battery powered, compact and light enough to carry to the sampling location, so you can verify equipment where it is deployed instead of bringing it back to a lab.
How does the 4046 compare with the TSI 4146?
They cover different bands. The 4146 runs 0.01 to 20 LPM, suiting personal pumps through mid-range area sampling. The 4046 starts at 2.5 LPM and reaches 300 LPM. They overlap between 2.5 and 20 LPM, so if all your work sits below 20 LPM the 4146 is the more versatile choice.
