What flow range does the TSI 4146 cover?
10 to 20,000 mL/min (0.01 to 20 LPM). That is the widest single span of any calibrator in our fleet, reaching from low-flow sorbent tube sampling right up through area sampling.
Can one 4146 replace both a low-flow and a standard calibrator?
For most industrial hygiene work, yes. Its 0.01 to 20 LPM span covers sorbent tubes and passive samplers at the bottom end, filter cassettes and cyclones in the middle, and area samplers at the top. That is the main reason to choose it over a Defender, which requires picking a specific range model.
Does it give continuous readings while I adjust a pump?
Yes. Continuous real-time readings let you watch flow respond as you turn the adjustment, rather than reading, adjusting blind and re-reading. It shortens pump setup noticeably when you are calibrating several units in a row.
Is it a primary calibrator, and does it come with certification?
Yes. It is a primary standard supplied with a NIST-traceable calibration certificate, and the same unit covers initial adjustment, formal calibration and periodic field checks.
Is it practical to carry to a sampling site?
Yes. It is battery powered, compact and lightweight, so pre- and post-shift pump checks can be done at the work location rather than back at a lab bench.
When would I need the TSI 4046 instead?
Only when your equipment runs above 20 LPM. The 4046 covers 2.5 to 300 LPM for high-volume samplers and ventilation work. Below 20 LPM the 4146 is the more useful instrument because it also reaches down to 0.01 LPM.
