The YSI ProDSS is a rugged, user-friendly handheld multiparameter water quality meter built around a 4-port cable assembly. The conductivity and temperature sensor is required on every rental and ships installed in one port, leaving three ports open for any combination of optical dissolved oxygen, pH/ORP, turbidity, and ion selective smart sensors. Each sensor stores its own traceable calibration, so it can be moved between ports or instruments without recalibrating.

YSI specifies that a conductivity and temperature sensor must be installed for accurate measurement of every ProDSS parameter except turbidity. Temperature compensation depends on it, and the salinity value it produces is what the instrument uses to calculate dissolved oxygen in mg/L and to run the ammonium, nitrate, and chloride algorithms. Every ProDSS rental from RAECO Rents includes it as standard, whatever else you are measuring.

This unit has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack delivering roughly 48 hours of run time and over 100,000 data sets of onboard memory alongside 400 GLP files. Data moves to Kor Software for Windows or Kor Mobile for iOS and Android over built-in micro USB.

Contact Us for Rental Information
This equipment is part of a specialized system and may not be available for individual rental. Please contact our rental specialists to discuss your project requirements and available options.
Can I use the ProDSS for unattended long-term logging?
It supports continuous logging, but battery life is the practical limit: roughly 48 hours for the handheld alone and closer to 20 hours with a full sensor array. It is built for spot checks, well purging, and vertical profiling rather than multi-week deployment. For unattended monitoring, ask us about a deployable sonde.
Can the ProDSS measure ammonium, nitrate, or chloride?
Yes, using ion selective electrode sensors, but they carry limits the other sensors do not: freshwater only, a 20 meter maximum depth, and a sensor module life of roughly three to six months. They also need a chilled third calibration point when sample temperature varies widely across the job.
Is the YSI ProDSS intrinsically safe?
No. The ProDSS carries CE, RoHS, WEEE, FCC, and an IP-67 rating, but no intrinsic safety or hazardous location certification. Do not use it in classified areas, and never let it substitute for IS-certified atmospheric monitoring during a confined space entry.
Can I use ProDSS turbidity readings for drinking water compliance reporting?
No. The ProDSS turbidity sensor uses ISO 7027 optics and reports in FNU, while the methods approved for Safe Drinking Water Act filter compliance at 40 CFR 141.74(a)(1) report in NTU. Use it for surface water, stormwater, dredging, and process screening, and confirm your required method before renting.
Is the ProDSS optical dissolved oxygen sensor EPA approved?
For wastewater, yes. It meets ASTM Method D888-09 (C) under 40 CFR 136.3 Table IB, and the same sensor covers BOD and CBOD under Standard Methods 5210 B-2001. It is not approved for drinking water compliance reporting.
How often does the ProDSS need recalibrating in the field?
Conductivity and turbidity typically hold for several weeks. pH and ORP hold for days. Optical dissolved oxygen should be calibrated daily. Verify every sensor on each day of use, and note that dissolved oxygen and pH samples must be analyzed within 15 minutes of collection.
Does the ProDSS optical dissolved oxygen sensor need membrane changes?
No. It uses a luminescent sensor cap, so there is no membrane to replace, no electrolyte to top up, and no stirring requirement. Readings stabilize almost immediately after power-on, and the cap is replaced roughly annually rather than maintained in the field.
What cable length does the ProDSS rental come with?
A 4 meter cable, which is what RAECO Rents stocks. That reaches most manholes, lift stations, shallow wells, tanks, and surface water grab points. It is not enough for deep well or reservoir profiling, so tell us your target depth when you book and we will confirm the ProDSS is the right fit before it ships.
