TSI Quest SoundPro Guide: Setup, Octave Bands, and Data Export

Learn the essential operations for the TSI SoundPro, from initial setup and menu navigation to running a study and exporting your data. This guide is perfect for first-time users performing area sampling or sound mapping in non-explosive environments.

Getting Started: What's in the Box?

Before you begin your study, familiarize yourself with the SoundPro kit essentials [00:44]. Your kit includes:

  • The SoundPro Unit: A sound level meter for non-intrinsically safe environments.

  • Accessories: Windscreen, calibrator, and mini-USB cable.

  • Power & Data: Power cable, spare batteries, and a USB drive containing all necessary software and manuals.

Step 1: Interface & Basic Controls

The SoundPro features a straightforward interface to help you navigate through settings and studies:

  • Powering On: Use the power button located on the bottom right of the device [01:17].

  • Navigation: Use the four soft keys directly below the screen to select menu options and the arrow keys to move through the main screen [01:27].

  • Safety Check: Always ensure no study is currently running before changing settings. Look for the play/pause icon in the top left corner of the screen [01:51].

Step 2: Configuring Your Setup

Customizing the meter ensures your data meets specific project requirements:

  • Meter Settings: Access the Setup menu to adjust the threshold, exchange rate, criterion level, and projected time [02:44].

  • Octave Band Filters: These can be toggled on or off within the Logging settings [02:53].

  • Time and Date: If you are traveling between time zones, adjust these settings in the Time and Date menu by pressing Enter to edit and the arrow keys to change values [03:19].

Step 3: Running and Stopping a Study

Properly starting and stopping your session prevents data loss:

  • Starting/Pausing: From the main screen, press the Run button on the bottom left. The same button is used to pause the session [03:57].

  • Ending the Test: To save your data, press and hold the Stop button. A 3-second countdown will appear; do not turn off the unit until this process is complete [04:26].

Step 4: Data Extraction with DMS Software

Once your study is complete, use the Detection Management Software (DMS) to review your results:

  • Connection: Connect the SoundPro to your PC using the mini-USB cable [04:58].

  • Downloading Data: Open DMS and navigate to the Download tab. Select "Sound Level Meters" and then "SoundPro" from the instrument list [05:49].

  • Saving Files: Select the files you wish to extract and hit Download. It is recommended to select "No" when asked to clear data immediately, ensuring you have a backup until the transfer is verified [06:35].

  • Reviewing: Your files will appear in the Data Finder tab for detailed analysis and archiving [06:54].
